How to Charge Energy Crystals With the Moon

By Errin Reaume; Updated April 24, 2017
Crystals sensitive to water or direct sunlight should be moon bathed.

Crystal charging is the opposite of clearing. Crystal clearing is used to rid crystal of unwanted energy or vibrations. Crystal charging is used to imbue crystal with positive feelings, vibrations, or energy. Charged crystals are used to promote healing, strengthen intention and confidence, promote power in spell casting, and banish negativity. There are several ways to charge crystals, including placing them in sunlight, running crystals under water, placing crystals in a bowl of salt water, or bathing crystals in moonlight. Moonlight bathing is the most gentle method of crystal charging.

Hold a crystal in your hand and close your eyes. Sense if the energy emanating from the crystal is stagnant or missing. If so, the crystal should be charged.

Decide what you wish your crystal to be used for, general charging, increasing energies, or decreasing energies. This will determine when to bathe your crystals.

Place crystals on a plate outside or on a windowsill in the light of the full moon for general charging. General charging will increase the power of the crystals' inherent abilities. Amethyst for example, is known for warding off intoxication and promoting psychic abilities. Charging an amethyst in full moonlight will enhance these abilities. Bring the crystal inside or away from sunlight during the day. Do not touch the crystal, only the plate.

Place crystals on a plate outside or on a windowsill during a waning moon to dispel negativity or banish problems. Charge crystal in waning moonlight for several nights. Meditate with the charged crystal on what you wish to dispel.

Place crystals on a plate outside or on a windowsill during a waxing moon to bring abundance, increase health, hope, or connection. Bathe the crystal in the moonlight of a waxing moon for several nights. Meditate with the charged crystal on what you wish to increase.

Pour a ring of sea salt around the crystal or on the plate for additional clearing and charging power.

Tip

Clear and charge a crystal when you first receive it to remove any energy it may have picked up.
