Chrysler manufactured the Dodge Caravan between 1983 and 1998. In 1998, DaimlerChrysler was formed. They never discontinued the Dodge Caravan and as of 2010, continue to manufacture the line of vans. There have been several models of the Dodge Caravan manufactured over the years. Millions of the popular Dodge Caravans have been sold since Chrysler first began assembling them in the 1980s.

Engine Specs

According to MSN Autos, the models of Dodge Caravans released in 1994 feature engines that offer either 2.5-liter (L), 3.0L or 3.3L displacements. Displacement refers to the volume within the cylinders of an engine that is displaced as pistons complete a revolution. These engines produce 100-horsepower (2.5L), 142-horsepower (3.0L) or 162-horsepower (3.3L) outputs depending on the engine. Newer models of the Dodge Caravan offer bigger engines with increased horsepower outputs. According to AOL Autos, 2010 Dodge Caravans are fitted with six-cylinder, 3.3L, 3.8L or 4.0L engines. These engines produce 175 (3.3L), 197 (3.8L) or 251 (4.0L) horsepower.

Exterior Dimensions

Depending on the model, Dodge Caravans produced in 1994 feature a 112.3- or 119.3-inch wheelbase. The wheelbase on a vehicle is measured between the center of the rear axle and the center of the front tires on the vehicle. They are either 178.1 or 192.8 inches long and either 64.2, 64.4 or 64.8 inches tall. These vehicles are all 72 inches wide, according to MSN Autos. All models of the 2010 Dodge Caravan are designed to the same exterior dimensions. The wheelbase on 2010 Dodge Caravans is 121.2 inches. These vans are 202.5 inches long, 78.7 inches wide and 68.9 inches tall, according to AOL Autos.

Fuel Efficiency

Fuel efficiency offered by Dodge Caravans has been similar across the decades. According to MSN Autos, 1994 Dodge Caravans offer 17, 19 or 20 mpg (miles per gallon) fuel efficiency in city settings depending on the engine fitted within the vehicle. These vans offer between 22 and 24 mpg fuel efficiency on the highway. According to AOL Autos, 2010 Caravans offer 16 or 17 mpg in the city and between 23 and 25 mpg on the highway. The 1994 Caravans feature either a 19.8-gallon or 20-gallon fuel tank. 2010 Caravans are all fitted with fuel tanks that can hold a maximum 20 gallons of fuel.
