How To Calculate The Electrical Consumption Of A Motor
If you have motor-powered devices in your household or garage, and want to factor their cost into your monthly utility bill, you can easily calculate how much electricity they use in kilowatt-hours, the standard unit of measurement for household electrical use. Motors typically have a horsepower measurement on their identification plate for measuring electrical consumption.
Step 1
Locate the identification plate on the motor and find the horsepower measurement, noted as HP.
Step 2
Enter the number into your calculator.
Step 3
Multiply your motor's horsepower rating by 0.746. According to WEN Technology's website, this will give you a measurement of approximate electrical consumption of the motor per hour in kilowatts.
