How To Convert A Percentage Into Hours
Converting a percentage into hours can be important when you are splitting up a task that requires a certain number of hours of work. You can also convert from a percentage to hours to determine how much time you should be spending on something. For example, if you should spend 30 percent of your time asleep each day, you would need to convert that to hours to know how many hours of sleep you need. To convert from a percentage to a number of hours, you need to know the percentage of the time that you are responsible for and the total number of hours needed.
Step 1
Determine the percentage you want to convert to hours. For example, if you were working on a project with three other people that required spending time observing, and you wanted to split the observation time equally, you could each do 25 percent.
Step 2
Divide the percentage from step 1 by 100 to convert it from a percentage to a decimal. For example, 25 percent would convert to 0.25 as a decimal.
Step 3
Determine the total number of hours possible. For example, if your project required a total of 50 hours of observation, 50 would be the total number of hours possible.
Step 4
Multiply the decimal from step 2 by the total number of hours in step 3 to determine the number of hours represented by the percentage. For example, if you need to observe for 25 percent for 50 hours, you would multiply 50 by 0.25 and find the answer equals 12.5 hours.
