Home Remedies to Kill Asian Beetles

Emily Jones

Asian beetles are often mistaken for ladybugs. They were imported and released by the Department of Agriculture in the late 1970s and early 1980s in an attempt to provide a more natural way to control pests. These beetles have no natural enemies and have multiplied by the millions since then.

There are many effective home remedies to get rid of Asian beetles.

They are beneficial predators that feed on aphids and other pests that injure or destroy plants, but they do bite and can release a bad-smelling yellow chemical that can stain your walls and other surfaces. If Asian beetles are getting to be annoying or bothersome, here are a few home remedies you can try to get rid of them.

Indoor Home Remedies

To get rid of Asian beetles inside your home, look for them to gather near windows and light fixtures and vacuum them up with a hose attachment. Immediately throw your vacuum bag in an outdoor trash container. This is the fastest and easiest way to get rid of them. You could also place duct tape with both sides sticky on window sills where Asian beetles like to congregate. When they walk over the tape, they will get stuck. Dispose of the tape in an outdoor trash receptacle.

Outdoor Home Remedies

Dust your outside bushes and plants lightly with baking soda or cayenne pepper to keep Asian beetles away. Make a natural insecticide to spray your outside plants by mixing 1/2 cup of ammonia with 4 cups of water in a spray bottle. Spray this solution directly on the bugs.

Prevention

The best way to control Asian beetles is through prevention. Seal exterior gaps, cracks, windows, doors, eaves and other points of entry with caulk, silicone or foam. Grow plants around your house and yard that deter Asian beetles like chives, garlic, or catnip. Make sure there are no tears in your window screens and that they fit tightly in the window frame.
