If you are a janitor who is looking for work or if you are a manager who is looking for a janitor, you will need to know the square footage of the area that must be cleaned and maintained. You will also need to have a monetary figure in mind based on this square footage. A square footage formula gives you an objective basis for figuring pay.

Step 1

Measure the length and width of each area that needs to be cleaned. Do not include areas that will not be part of the janitorial responsibilities.

Step 2

Multiply the length times the width of each area to be cleaned. This gives you square footage.

Step 3

Add the totals for each area's square footage (from Step 2) to find the total square footage of cleanable area.

Step 4

Multiply the square footage times a base price. For instance, if your total area to be cleaned is 5,000 square feet and the price per square foot is 25 cents, you multiply 0.25 times 5,000 to get a total of $1,250 for cleaning fees.
