Materials For Bouncing An Egg For A Science Fair Project
Making an egg bounce is an entertaining and enthralling experiment that can be done using household items and takes just a few days to complete. You can do this experiment as a part of a school project, or as a fun way to compete with friends. The materials you need can be found at any grocery store
Hardboiled Egg
You need a hardboiled egg to complete this experiment because a raw egg will splatter if you try to bounce it. You can use any variety of egg for this experiment as long as it's boiled all the way through.
White Vinegar
The main material needed to make the hardboiled egg bounce is white vinegar. An egg's shell is made of calcium carbonate, and the acid in the vinegar eats away at it until only the insides are left.
Bowl or Jar
You can't complete this experiment without having a place to let your egg sit in the vinegar. A simple glass jar or bowl with a lid will suffice. Use a container that you'll be able to easily store and access during the experiment.
Completing the Experiment
Place the egg in a pot, cover it with at least one inch of water and bring it to a rolling boil. After the water begins to boil, remove the egg from the heat and let it stand in the hot water for 10 to 12 minutes. Allow it to cool before moving on to the next step. Set the egg into a large bowl, cover it completely with white vinegar and top with a lid. Let it sit for three days and then carefully rub the remainder of the shell off the egg. You're then ready to start bouncing.
