Research Paper Topics In Biochemistry

Biochemistry is the study of chemical reactions within living organisms. It began as a combination of biology and chemistry (organic, inorganic and physical). Today, variegated research in the field is being conducted across the globe. Some of the research is far-reaching and some is more specified. When choosing a research paper topic in the field of biochemistry, it is best to choose a wider topic and apply it to a narrow or interdisciplinary focus.

Apoptosis

Apoptosis is the programmed death of a cell. This death is regulated by the body and is beneficial to the related organism. Focus a research paper on apoptosis as a response to injury or as a form of cellular suicide. A very specific paper topic is the way in which an organism uses apoptosis in the latter sense as it grows. One example is the way a tadpole becomes a frog. This process involves apoptosis of various tissue cells when that tissue needs to disappear to make room for toes, for example. Since this process is very complicated, go into detail about each part of the cell, its role in apoptosis and its responses to the overall process before it is related to the larger topic.

Biochemistry and Pathological Psychiatry

Many years of research have gone into the possible connections between pathological psychology and biochemistry. Here, the study of chemical processes in the brain is compared and applied to clinical studies involving people with pathological mental illnesses. Plan a research paper that follows a single pathological disease and reports on possible connections or proven connections between that disease and biochemical processes. Another topic is to report on the history of the subject from the study of psychology in the late 1800s through the present. Hypothesize which direction the field will go in the future.

Adaptation

Another research topic idea is to discuss the role that biochemistry plays in plant and animal adaptation to different environments. For example, if a plant is grown in a different environment than the one it is native to, it may or may not be able to adapt, depending on how the new environment affects biochemical process related to growth, energy conversion and other factors. If the new environment disrupts any process related to the growth of the plant, that plant dies due to an inability to adapt. The paper focuses on specific enzymes that are affected by environmental changes in plants or on a single species of plant and its ability to adapt to an environment. This idea may also applied to other living organisms.

Polymorphism

Polymorphism is a topic in biology that refers to the occurrence of two different phenotypes of the same species existing in the same location. This means that two members of the same species have a different appearance. For example, army ants living in the same community come in different sizes. Certain snakes display variations in patterns or coloration as well. A research paper on the subject looks at biochemical aspects of polymorphism, like differences in pigmentation, in a specific species or ecosystem.
